Syllabus

• Introduction to FreeBSD (origin, development, other BSD systems, other Unix systems, who FreeBSD is intended for), installation (downloading FreeBSD, LiveCD FreeSBIE, use of hard disk - root partition, swap space, /var, /tmp, /usr, /home partitions, second hard disk, what to install), additional help (mailing lists, manual pages, FreeBSD documentation - Handbook, FAQ, articles, web portals), version management (RCS), operating system kernel and its configuration (sysctl, loading and unloading kernel modules in multi-user mode, editing and building a custom kernel), Ethernet connection (ifconfig, aliases, netstat, sockstat), operating system upgrade (use of individual versions, cvsup, fixing security bugs), system security (security levels (securelevel) and their choice, jail, security monitoring), information about /etc (cron, periodic, rc.conf), additional software (ports system, package system, software search, upgrade), file systems and hard disks (device nodes, hard disks and their partitions, FFS file system, virtual nodes, soft updates), system status monitoring (top, ps, syslogd)
